Perhaps Saint Francis Xavier illustrated it best, in his letters to Saint Ignatius Loyola. Missionary life was not for everyone, but for the select individuals who would open their hearts and lives to the will of the Lord.
New Saint Damien Day
Lt. Gov. James R. “Duke” Aiona Jr. News Release
Lt. Governor James R. “Duke” Aiona, Jr. announced the signing into law of SB 2740, which he proposed during the legislative session to establish May 10 as Saint Damien Day in Hawaii. Father Damien Day was previously celebrated on April 15.
Father Damien Scholar Interviewed
Hilde Eynikel, author of “Molokai: The Story of Father Damien,” will be interviewed by a Wisconsin radio station today, April 14. The interview will appear on their website, http://www.wsau.com/
Eynikel, a prominent Belgian journalist, wrote the book in 1999. That same year, a major motion picture was made from her book, starting David Wenham, Sam Neill and Peter O’Toole.
